Common Questions

How are you different from other existing education groups? What makes your approach unique?

We are a collection of educators and changemakers who believe high-performing K-12 schools in local communities ought to be the reality of every student in Arizona. Every child, in every neighborhood, should have easy access to a high-quality school. There is much work to be done to ensure high-quality education is available to students in their own backyards. With the right organization, leadership, and support, the promise of a more equitable and accessible education system can be a reality. While we believe we are the first in Arizona to coordinate focused, meaningful collaboration among a wide variety of stakeholders, including districts, charters, experts, funders, and policymakers, we are hardly the first to offer meaningful solutions. Answers to many problems in education already exist. We are a connector, facilitating proven solutions to challenging problems.

To what political party does AZ Leads affiliate?
Down arrow

AZ Leads is a bi-partisan organization that is not aligned to any one political party. Our singular motivation is to create an environment in which all children have access to high-quality schools. To make this happen, a variety of educators, leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders need to be invested in the same outcome. We do not have a monopoly on solutions; indeed, we believe solutions for a variety of problems come from a variety of sources.

Arizona has school choice, why can’t students in underserved areas attend another school?
Down arrow

We are proponents of school choice, but true choice only occurs when access to excellent public schools exists for all K – 12 Arizona students. It is the reality of many students that they do not have access to reliable transportation and face other issues that make attending a school outside their neighborhood challenging. Geography should not be a barrier to quality education. Every neighborhood should offer excellent education options.

Why aren’t you focused on raising the bar for all schools, regardless of rating?

AZ Leads aims to bring people and organizations together to identify, utilize and promote actions that have had a proven, positive impact on education – particularly within underserved communities. Indeed, elevating the quality of education in these communities can positively impact the entire education system, benefiting all students and all schools.
